Opportunity Title:
Scientist/Engineer to develop analytical spectroscopic software for use with drone-borne Terahertz Sensors for pollution monitoring.
Company Description:
Bakman Technologies is an exciting start-up technology company that manufactures and sells the world’s only portable, turn-key, frequency domain THZ spectrometers. Our products can be used for multiple applications including atmospheric characterization, fuel and oil analysis and biosensing. Our portable PB7200-2000-T was recently re-engineered “small” and mounted to a consumer drone to measure water vapor absorptions ten meters above the ground. This successful endeavor has resulted in government funding to aid in the production of a whole new class of instruments that are smaller, lighter and more sensitive.
General Description:
Terahertz technology touches on many different disciplines: semiconductor physics, optics, spectroscopy and now application data analysis. The individual in this position should enjoy working physically with laboratory equipment and be comfortable working as part of a team. They must be meticulous and well document their work.
Requirements:
PhD in computer science, electrical engineering or a related field. The primary responsibility of the applicant will be to develop the spectral analysis software to reduce the data gathered by the Terahertz sensors into atmospheric emission lines. Secondarily, the applicant will develop any specialized firmware needed to meet weight and space constraints for drone integration.
Useful Background Experience:
This is a hands on hardware job. So some of the skills that would be useful would be experience with: programming microprocessors and computers, reading and creating schematics, algorithm development, building instruments with custom sensors, familiarity with HiTran, and/or molecular dynamics simulation. Extensive experience with general laboratory instrumentation and programming in Java, JavaScript C#, Visual Basic, Python, C/C++. Not all these skills are necessary, just desired.
Applying:
The preferred method of hiring is through the NSF I-Perf program so please create an account (https://iperfapp.asee.org/users/sign_in?type=applicant), find the Bakman Technologies Posting and apply.
Applicants must be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident.
